Lambda sensors, also known as oxygen sensors or O2 sensors, measure the oxygen content in exhaust gases to help the ECU manage the air-fuel ratio. Modern vehicles typically have two lambda sensors per catalytic converter — a pre-cat sensor for fuel mixture control and a post-cat sensor for catalytic converter efficiency monitoring.

When a catalytic converter is removed or replaced with a sports cat or test pipe, the post-cat lambda sensor detects a change in exhaust gas composition and triggers a check engine light with a catalytic converter efficiency fault code. This is one of the most common issues after exhaust modifications on petrol vehicles.

Our lambda off file service deactivates the post-cat lambda sensor monitoring in the ECU software. This eliminates the catalytic converter efficiency check while maintaining the pre-cat sensor for proper fuel mixture control. The result is a clean modification that prevents fault codes without affecting engine running quality.

For vehicles where complete lambda deactivation is required, such as standalone engine management conversions or full race applications, we can also disable the pre-cat lambda monitoring and switch the ECU to open-loop fueling mode.

Each lambda off modification is calibrated for the specific engine and ECU platform. We ensure that the fuel control strategy remains appropriate for the vehicle application, whether that is a road car with a decat pipe or a dedicated competition vehicle.
