Pop and bang tuning, also known as a crackle map or burble tune, modifies the ECU calibration to create dramatic exhaust sounds during throttle lift-off and deceleration. The effect produces audible pops, crackles, and bangs from the exhaust system that enhance the driving experience with an aggressive, motorsport-inspired soundtrack.

The modification works by adjusting the ignition timing and fuel injection strategy during overrun conditions. When the driver lifts off the throttle, small amounts of unburnt fuel continue to enter the exhaust system where it ignites, creating the characteristic popping and crackling sounds. The intensity and character of the effect can be calibrated from subtle burbles to aggressive gunshot-style pops.

Our pop and bang calibrations are carefully engineered to deliver the desired sound effect while maintaining safe exhaust gas temperatures. The modification is active only during deceleration and overrun, with no impact on normal driving, acceleration, or idle behavior.

This service is available for both petrol and diesel turbocharged engines, though the effect is most pronounced on petrol vehicles. For the best results, a performance exhaust system or at minimum a decat pipe is recommended, as the standard catalytic converter will muffle the effect.

Each pop and bang file is tuned to the specific engine and ECU combination, ensuring proper operation and the optimal balance between sound intensity and component safety. The modification can be combined with Stage 1 or Stage 2 tuning for a complete performance package.
